These days, if they come from an English speaking country, they can teach English. Inspired by Victorian photographs of native races taken between 1872 and 1876, Gary McLeod has sought out, photographed, and interviewed English teachers in Japan for a photographic archive of these transient workers. The teachers, from various English-speaking countries, were recruited using social networking sites for a set of 100 portraits taken over the course of one year around Japan.
