Pops and Jazz Pianist David Chester and vocalist Helen Morrison are music industry veterans who team up to provide evenings of light, fun and diverse musical entertainment, as they will do this week at the FCCJ.
Milwaukee native Helen Morrison came to Tokyo in 1999 as the producer of LasVegas-style revues performed in onsen resorts throughout Japan. Enchanted, she stayed and has worked as an actress, singer and voice actress. Her elegant soprano voice can be heard singing “Fascination” in the Mt. Rainier coffee commercial featuring Scarlett Johansson, performing an aria in the 2009 Japanese film “Pride,” and backing-up the Okinawan J-pop band HY. Her debut CD "Love Music," released in 2010, was produced by David Chester.
An Angeleno now living in Tokyo, David Chester has written the music, lyrics or arrangements for more than 80 originals and English-language versions of J-pop hits, including those recorded by Grammy-winning artists Richard Marx, Roberta Flack and Deniece Williams. He also wrote the official English lyrics for the Okinawan hit "Hana." David has traveled the world as a musician, acts in Japanese commercials, has provided character voices for game software by Sega and Namco, and is an award-winning screenwriter and short filmmaker.
