"I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey"
Doctor & Author of "I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey"
Language: The speech and Q&A will be in English
Known as the Gaza Doctor, Izzeldin Abuelaish recounted his story of tragedy, faith and the search for peace in his 2010 book "I Shall Not Hate," which described the deaths of three of his daughters to Israeli artillery fire in January 2009.
After growing up in a Gaza refugee camp, he became the first Palestinian doctor to work in Israeli hospitals. Two decades of having to negotiate the complicated, time-consuming and unfriendly border taught him patience, he says.
Now an internationally recognized human rights and peace activist, Dr. Abuelaish devotes his life to advancing health and education opportunities for women and girls in the Middle East, through both his research and his charitable organization, The Daughters of Life Foundation.
Described as the Martin Luther King of the Middle East in his nomination by the Belgian Parliament for the Nobel Peace Prize, he has been named as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims for five consecutive years by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Jordan and has received a number of national and international awards in recognition of his promotion of human rights, peace and health.
Dr. Abuelaish's best-selling book has been translated into more than 20 languages, with the Japanese translation scheduled to be launched during his visit to Tokyo.
