The world’s first lawsuit demanding responsibility and compensation for the Fukushima disaster vis-a-vis nuclear power plant suppliers has been filed in Tokyo. On January 30th the first lawsuit documents and the list of plaintiffswere handed to the Tokyo District Court. They will send the second list of plaintiffs to the Tokyo District Courton March 10th.
This lawsuit is against GE, Hitachi and Toshiba, which providedthe nuclear reactors of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, although nuclear powerplant suppliers are said to be legally protected from responsibility fornuclear disasters.
Plaintiffs are based in the United States, Canada, Germany, the UK,Russia, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and other countries. The total numberof plaintiffs will be about 4,000 from 33 countries.
