The death penalty, sex offenses, immigration, women's roles and other adminstration policies {readmore}
Midori Matsushima
Minister of Justice
The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation

 The new Justice Minister, Midori Matsushima, is one of five female ministers under the second Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who returned to power in 2012 after a five-year hiatus.

 A four-term member of the House of Representatives of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) representing Tokyo's No. 14 constituency, Matsushima, 58, sports a red jacket as a trademark and is known as a longtime campaigner for crime victims.

 A native of Osaka Prefecture, she created a group of cheerleaders called Baton Flowers within the cheering squad at the University of Tokyo, where she majored in economics. She joined the Asahi Shimbun after graduating from Todai in 1980 and worked at the national daily for 15 years before turning to politics. She previously served in such posts as state minister of economy, trade and industry.

 Matsushima supports the death penalty and seeks tougher penalties on sex offenders.

 She will come to the club to talk about these and other policies under the Abe government, including immigration and women's greater roles in Japanese society.

 Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
