Outgoing NY Yankees captain Derek Jeter and retired Yankee and Yomiuri Giants slugger Hideki Matsui will host a charity youth baseball event at the Giants stadium on November 16, featuring junior high school students affected by the Tohoku earthquake as well as American students from U.S. military bases in Japan.

With baseball still in season, we will be joined by Giants Manager Tatsunori Hara, who will speak on behalf of the two star players about this event, as well as New Zealand Ambassador Mark Sinclair, who chairs the Support Our Kids project, the charity which this will be part of.

On the podium will also be Lt. General Salvatore Angelella, representing the U.S. Forces in Japan, which is supporting the event alongside the Self Defense Forces and the Ministry of Defense, and Sakae Otake of Tohoku Fukushi University, representing the Tohoku region, where many children are still experiencing hardship and disruption in their lives.

The event, which highlights the friendship between Jeter and Matsui, aims to build on good relations between the U.S. and Japan as well as raise awareness of the continued challenges facing children in Tohoku. The two players will host a baseball clinic for juniors and each will coach a team for the charity baseball match.

Come and hear from Giants' Hara, himself still battling through the season here, about the power of baseball and this star-studded charity event.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
