Aya Takazawa started on piano when she was 5, but she switched to the trumpet at 10 and never looked back. The versatile musician studied under Hitoshi Kumagai, at one time the principle trumpeter of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. While at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo she was a member of the New Tide Jazz Orchestra, a prizewinner in the Yamano Big Band Contest.

In recent years she was featured on a CD by the all-female Tokyo Brass Unit and in 2009 she played a trumpet solo at the commemoration ceremony of the United Nations Population Fund in New York. In addition to backing up a wide range of performers, she now leads her own small groups as well as playing in big bands. The Japanese magazines "Jazz Japan" and "Jazz Critic" have both called her one of the country's most promising trumpet players. This is a jazz musician who is going places, and if you come out to this week's SNL you will be able to say you heard her play when she was on her way up.

As always, its FREE. Never a cover, never a music charge. SNL is the best Saturday night out in Tokyo for those on a budget.
