"Eliminate the Gender Wage Gap and Promote Women to Management Positions"
Shizuko Koedo
Representative of Working Women’s Network (WWN)
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English

It may be the world's third largest economy, but Japan's record in compensating working women is dismal - a lowly 105th globally. The main reason, our speaker says, is the lack of women in management positions. Shizuko Koeda has helmed the Working Women's Network since 2007, after a distinguished career in business at a trading firm and later her own company.

Koeda says she was made aware of gender equality issues when she attended a women's conference in Nairobi in 1985. Since then, she has worked in the field to close the gap. For this event, Koeda will present the findings from a series of interviews conducted with women after the Global Gender Gap Index to the World published their rankings, placing Japan at 105th, and the recommendations from the Working Women's Network which will be presented to the Abe cabinet, Rengo and other organisations.

Come and hear a first-hand analysis of the institutional and legal barriers which still hold women back in this country, despite the great fanfare over "womenomics".

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
