Abenomics and Japan's election: What to make of the course correction?
Paul Sheard
Chief Global Economist and Head of Global Economics and Research, Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English

Standard & Poor's New York-based chief global economist Paul Sheard will analyse the background to, and economic policy implications of, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's decision to delay the second consumption tax hike and to call a snap election, seeking a renewed mandate for his policy agenda. S&P's renowned Japan watcher will also explain the Bank of Japan's recent surprise move in stepping up its monetary easing. What is the right way to understand Abenomics, and does it represent the correct policy mix for Japan? Where do Abenomics and the economy go from here? Do recent developments increase or decrease the chances of success, and can the BOJ deliver its end of the bargain? Come along and hear the answers to these and other questions.

Prior to that, he was Head of Japan Equity Investments at Baring Asset Management.
