Discussion with the experts on the Exit Polls and the incoming results.

FCCJ Election Night Central with
Michael T
homas Cucek, Adjunct Fellow, Temple University Japan, ICAS
Jun Okumura, Senior Advisor, Eurasia Group,

Sebastian Maslow, Doctoral Research Fellow, DIJ

*At Main Bar
*The Discussion will be in English

Sunday evening, when the polls close, the results of the lower house elections will start coming in. Will Abe’s LDP roll past 300 seats? Will his party even get a two-thirds majority? Will the Communist Party steal the show? And how will the individual races turn out? Will DPJ leader (and our local lawmaker) Banri Kaieda keep his seat? Will Ichiro Ozawa be tossed out of his decades-old kingdom?

As journalists we must make sense of it all and explain it to our readers, listeners, or viewers.

But where to go on Election Night? Naturally, the action will be happening at the FCCJ!

As the polling stations close, our guest experts will comment immediately on the exit polls and the incoming results. *Three experts on Japanese politics have agreed to join us so far:

Michael Thomas Cucek runs the political blog Shisaku. He is also an adjunct fellow of Temple University Japan, ICAS.

Jun Okumura blogs at GlobalTalk 21. He is also a visiting researcher at the Meiji Institute for Global Affairs and a senior adviser at the Eurasia Group.

*Sebastian Maslow is a Doctoral Research Fellow for political science at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ)

The format will be a highly interactive discussion. Journalists will get immediate insight, commentary, and quotes. Workspaces will be available for working journalists. The workroom will stay accessible all night.

For organizational reasons, please reserve as soon as possible, 03 3211-3161 or on the website.

Interested Associate members are welcome to join us too.

Last order at the bar is 19:30 – so please come before that if you want to order food or drinks.
