"Japan and the 100 million"
Seiko Noda
House of Representatives, Liberal Democratic Party
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

After a torrid summer pushing through his controversial security bill amid fierce opposition, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is seeking to reinvigorate his drive for economic growth and has relaunched his so-called three arrows policy.

Under the slogan "Society in Which all 100 million People can be Active" Abe wants to build a strong economy, increase support for child raising and strengthen social security to ensure all citizens can play a role in society. The reference to 100 million is said by government insiders to refer to the target population Japan wants to maintain as a declining birthrate sends it into seemingly irreversible decline.

But some commentators have said it reminds them of wartime slogans, such as one calling on all 100 million civilians to embrace death rather than defeat at the end of World War II.

Either way, the targets Abe has laid out including boosting economic output by 20 percent have left analysts scratching their heads.

Seiko Noda, a ruling party lawmaker who sought to build support earlier this to challenge Abe for the LDP leadership, has agreed to come to the club to discuss the new plans and talk about the policies needed to achieve the Prime Minister's goals.

Noda was born in 1960 and started in politics as a member of the Gifu Prefectural Assembly in 1987. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1993 and has served as the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and General Council Chairwoman, Liberal Democratic Party.Come and listen to her speak about Abe's latest economic growth plan.
