"New Horizons for the Suntory Group"
Takeshi Niinami
President & Chief Executive Officer, Suntory Holdings Ltd.
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English

Over a year after taking the helm of Suntory Holdings, Takeshi Niinami will kick off our corporate speakers in the New Year to talk about his strategy and plans for the Japanese alcohol and beverage giant. After heading the convenience-store operator Lawson for over a decade, Niinami was tapped to be the first person outside of the Suntory founding family to lead the over century-old company.

In addition to making his mark on Suntory, his task is to nimbly operate in a shrinking overall domestic market and expand overseas as well as to integrate and build upon the $16 billion acquisition in 2014 of Beam Inc., the U.S.-based spirits maker. And if Niinami can bring a shot of his earnings prowess to Suntory that would be another plus. At Lawson, the Harvard Business School-grad was known for his ability to communicate (in fluent English) with global investors and speak their language – strong shareholder returns and growth.

Come to the Club to hear what the chief executive of Suntory and one of the nation’s leading corporate executives has to say about the outlook and strategy for his company, including the worldwide Japanese whisky boom, fund-raising and deals, as well as the Japanese economy.

Niinami joined trading company Mitsubishi Corporation after graduating from Keio University in 1981, ran Lawson from 2002 to 2014 and became Suntory’s president and CEO in October 2014. He also serves as a senior adviser to the current administration, including on the Government Tax Commission and as a private-sector member of the prime minister’s top economic policy body, the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
