Jazz and Pops Standards: A home-grown jazz group shows their stuff. Pianist Taku Yasumi had an early interest in jazz and bossa nova from high school, which really took off years later when while studying at the University of Minnesota, where he met jazz pianist Deen Dodge. Taku was privileged to study with Dodge and joined with the University Jazz Ensemble, where he had the good fortune to play with the likes of Curtis Fuller and Woody Herman Big Band at the Lakewood Jazz Festival.

Returning to everyday work life in Japan, Taku was led back to music 20 years later when performing with a Yamaha school Big Band he first met vocalist Rei Hamada. Surprise – Rei turned out to be the daughter of Taku’s classmate at the University of Minnesota! Rei has been studying and performing jazz, pops, and swing for over eight years. Her powerful voice and engaging stage presence has made her a favorite in the jazz clubs of Tokyo.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear a home-grown jazz group show their stuff at SNL.

And remember, it's free. No cover charge. No music charge. You just can't beat SNL for an exciting, entertaining night out in Tokyo.
