"3 Years Until Tokyo 2020 - the Most Exciting Games Ever!"

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation

The single biggest news event on the horizon in Japan is the Tokyo Olympic Games of 2020. Already, much of the news agenda is influenced by the Games – from politics, as prime minister Shinzo Abe uses the 2020 date as a target for policy initiatives, to business, as companies seek to prepare hotel space or new products for promotion at an event where Japan will be the centre of the world's attention.

A host of controversies have sprung up around the games, from the design of the stadium and its use of rainforest wood from Borneo, to Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike's efforts to cut the cost of the games by changing venues, and her on-again/off-again plans to move the Tsukiji fish market, which is in the way of a road that is supposed to take athletes to the Olympic Village.

To address these issues, and give a status report on preparations for the Games, we are delighted to welcome Toshiro Muto – chief executive of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOG) – and the man whose day-to-day job is wrestle with the complexities of staging the world's largest sporting event. Muto was appointed to this post in January 2014.

A law graduate from the University of Tokyo, Muto spent most of his career at the Ministry of Finance, before becoming deputy governor of the Bank of Japan. Since stepping down from that position in 2008 he has held various academic posts as well as chairing the Daiwa Institute of Research. Please do not miss this valuable opportunity.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
