Yasushi Akashi, Former United Nations Under-Secretary-General

Yayoi Sasada, Japan women's national gymnastics team member of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games

Nagisa Osada, Non-fiction writer, Director of Japan Society of Sports

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English and Japanese with English interpretation.

After a year of intense disputes between North Korea and the United States, the United Nations in November adopted a resolution in support of an Olympic Truce ahead of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, which will take place in February.

The truce was given strong support in Japan by Yasushi Akashi, the former U.N. Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, in conjunction with two sporting organizations: the Japan Society of Sport and the Olympic Paralympic Truce Association.

Tokyo will host the next Summer Olympics in 2020 and there have been calls already for a similar Olympic Truce to ensure peaceful Games and prevent any kind of boycott in two years' time.

Former U.N. diplomat Akashi will come to the Club to renew calls for an Olympic Truce, along with Yayoi Sasada (née Kano), a national team gymnast who was prevented from representing Japan by the Moscow boycott in 1980 and who is also the mother of Natsumi Sasada, one of Japan's top gymnasts and an Olympic hopeful for 2020. They will be joined by Japan Society of Sports Director Nagisa Osada.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
