In December and January there were a remarkable number of accidents associated with the helicopters of the US Marines based at Futenma. The first of these, on December 7, involved a mysterious cylindrical object with fell onto the roof of the Midorigaoka Nursery School in Ginowan, Okinawa.

In this case the Marines admitted that the object belonged to one of their helicopters, but curiously denied that it had fallen on the nursery school.

The Midorigaoka Nursery School leaders and parents are coming to the FCCJ to tell their story. They fear that the December 7 event was very nearly a tragedy that could have harmed their young children, ages 2 to 6. They also fear that next time they may not be so fortunate.

Indeed, there is a dark history in Okinawa regarding US military aircraft crashing into schools and killing many people, with the 1959 Miyamori Elementary School tragedy the single worst of these events.

Takehiro Kamiya, Pastor of the Futenma Baptist Church, is the head of the school. Tomoko Miyagi isPresident of the Parents' Association; and Yukiko Chinen is Vice President of the Parents' Association.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
