(The speech and Q & A will be in English)

"Is the Korean Transition Manageable?"

With reaction to the June 12 US-North Korea summit ranging from a historic and positive first step to an event lacking in substance, attention is now shifting to the specifics. Some in South Korea have called the 6.12 summit Act 1, Scene 1 in a long drama yet to come. From the experiences of many nations that have transitioned out of socialist regimes, one can easily see that economic security and military security are two sides of the same coin. Can Kim Jong Un become the next Deng Xiao Ping and stay in the saddle?

On the occasion of his return on June 19 from two weeks in Seoul monitoring the recent historical events - and the 95th birthday of his father, a lifetime FCCJ member who was born and raised in the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula - T. W. Kang will be sharing with the club fresh perspectives and insights from Seoul.

In addition to his experience on the boards on US, Japanese and Chinese firms and as an adviser to Fortune 500 firms on international strategies, T.W. Kang is also the author of numerous books, including "Is Korea The Next Japan?", which was translated into seven different languages. He has been involved with many public sector projects, such as visiting Russia and Central Asia on Japanese government missions to aid their transition to free market economies, and serving on Japan-Korea joint project committees at JETRO and the Japan Institute of Labor. He is one of the few South Koreans to have visited North Korea. He earned degrees from MIT and the Harvard Business School and is fluent in English, Japanese and Korean.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
