The speech and Q&A will be in English

"North Korea – the 'Next Big Thing' for the East Asian Economy? "

With the immediate threat of conflict on the Korean peninsula put "on hold" by the recent Singapore summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, attention is turning now to the possibility of a lasting peace in Korea. The economic and financial implications of such a development could be enormous for the "Two Koreas" (North and South) and for the rest of the East Asian region, including Japan.

Naoyuki Yoshino, Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) in Tokyo and a widely acknowledged authority on Asian affairs in general, will address the Korean issue in the wider context of regional economic developments. His briefing is of particular interest - and importance - at this time when worldwide interest in matters Korean is at a high.

Yoshino was quoted in several publications recently: "The Effectiveness of the Negative Interest Rate Policy in Japan", Credit and Capital Markets, Vol.50, Issue 2, 189-212 (2017), "Declined effectiveness of fiscal and monetary policies faced with aging population of Japan", Japan and the World Economy, Vol.42, 32-44, (2017). "Impact of infrastructure on tax revenue: Case study of high-speed train in Japan", Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development, Vol.1, Issue 2, Yoshino and Umid Abidhadjaev (2017).

Yoshino is Professor Emeritus of Keio University, in Tokyo, Japan; and Senior Adviser at the Japan Financial Services Agency's (FSA) Financial Research Center (FSA Institute). He obtained his PhD from Johns Hopkins University, where his thesis supervisor was Sir Alan Walters (who was Margaret Thatcher's Economic Adviser).

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
