Nobuo Gohara, Lawyer

"The Power of Public Prosecutors Over Plea Bargains"

Speech and Q&A will be in Japanese with English Interpretation

Nobuo Gohara, a lawyer and former prosecutor, is an expert on the plea bargaining system, which was introduced in June this year. He says there's something odd about the arrest of Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn if there was actually plea bargaining, as reported by Japanese media, between the Tokyo Prosecutor's Office and Nissan executives who provided vital information leading to Ghosn's arrest. He warns that because plea bargaining is new to Japan's criminal justice system, we need to be careful that the system is not abused or misused to frame your enemy
