Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman of Keidanren

(The speech and Q & A will be in English)

"Japan's Answer to the Digital Transformation Race: Society 5.0"

IoT (internet of things), machine learning, AI, flying cars, robot care workers, even robot monks... Humanity achieved the first, second and third industrial revolutions with the invention of the steam engine, electricity, and computer, respectively. Analysts say we are living through "Industry 4.0", which is dominated by cyber-physical systems and digital transformation. Society has been evolving to respond to these revolutions: It went from hunter-gathering to agriculture, industrialization, the information age and now what some call "Society 5.0", which is based on problem solving and value creation, diversity, decentralization, resilience, and sustainability and environmental harmony. How we react will have vast implications for the way we work, educate, govern, earn, live, and just survive in the 21st century.

As Japan prepares to host the G20 Summit in Osaka in June, FCCJ is proud to welcome Hiroaki Nakanishi, chairman of the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren. As head of Japan's most powerful business lobby and CEO of Hitachi, Nakanishi is well qualified to explain the blueprint for "Society 5.0: Co-creating the Future" -- an initiative created by Keidanren in November 2018. Nakanishi will discuss where Japan stands in the digital transformation race, and how it can stay upfront in areas ranging from city management to energy, disaster control, food distribution, manufacturing, health care and finance.

Since his appointment as chairman of Keidanren in May 2018, Nakanishi has been serving simultaneously as the executive chairman of Hitachi. In recent years, the company has been focusing on the social innovation business, aiming to create smart social infrastructure based on control and information technologies. He will chair the forthcoming Tokyo summit of the B20, the business sector's voice of the G20, and deliver its recommendations to the G20 Osaka Summit. Come along and get the early scoop before the Summit.
