"Season-Opener Outlook for Major League Baseball"

Joe Torre, Chief baseball Officer, Major League Baseball

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.

Joe Torre, has seen over five decades of professional baseball as a player, manager, and now as MLB's Chief Baseball Officer, where he oversees MLB operations on and off the field, and is the primary liaison to the general managers of the 30 Major League clubs and umpires.

He is known to most Japanese as the former manager of the New York Yankees, who won four World Series during his tenure and who also featured Hideki Matsui as one of their star players. Torre is the only player-manager to achieve 2,000 hits as a player and 2,000 wins as a manager, while adding an MVP award and nine All-Star appearances. For his many achievements, he was elected to the MLB Hall of Fame in 2014.

MLB is returning to Japan this month to kick off the new season with games between the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics. Torre will visit the FCCJ to give updates on the state of the game and Major League Baseball, and offer his views on the significance of international players such as the Mariners'Ichiro Suzuki and rookie pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, as well as the spread of the game worldwide.
