Takahiro Inagawa, CEO, Interstellar Technologies Inc.

(The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation)

"Japanese Startup Seeks to Shake Up Satellite Market"

Known in Japan as 'Horiemon' for his resemblance to a popular cartoon character, Takafumi Horie is one of Japan's most controversial entrepreneurs with an impressive (and unconventional) resume to match.

A Tokyo University dropout, he first made his name through his Livedoor internet company, before his arrest in 2006 and subsequent imprisonment for securities fraud.

In 2013, Horie and a group of investors founded Interstellar Technologies, a space launch company that aims to become "a family sedan for the stars." Interstellar became the first Japanese company to launch (albeit unsuccessfully) a privately developed space rocket in 2017.

Earlier this month, the company successfully launched the unmanned Momo-3 rocket into space, achieving an altitude of 113 km in four minutes before dropping in the Pacific Ocean.

Interstellar is trying to make a name for itself through its low-cost launches. It is now developing a rocket called the Zero that can put small satellites into orbit, and hopes to begin commercial operations in 2023.

The question now is whether it can convert its small steps into a giant leap, compete with U.S. and Chinese companies, and shake up the growing market for private satellites.

Horie will be joined at the FCCJ by Interstellar's president and CEO, Takahiro Inagawa.

Doors open for TV crew only at 12:15, all others at 12:30. Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation. Livestreaming of press conferences are available on our website (http://www.fccj.or.jp).

*Due to space restrictions, please note there will be a limited number of reservations to attend. FCCJ members, including TV cameras, will have priority for the reservation and seating/setting positions and one TV camera for affiliate networks.
