"Taking Stock of Japan's Resumption of Commercial Whaling"

Japan is due to resume commercial whaling on July 1 after a 30-year break. The move comes about six months after Japan announced its withdrawal from the International Whaling Commission, a decision that attracted criticism from anti-whaling countries.

Just days before the resumption, a leading campaigner against whaling will come to the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan to discuss the implications for conservation efforts.

Patrick Ramage. the Director of Marine Conservation at the International Fund for Animal Welfare, has worked with this non-government organization for more than 20 years. He is also well acquainted with the International Whaling Commission, having led more than a dozen delegations to the commission over the years.

"By maintaining strategic partnerships and open dialogues with leading scientists, government officials, industry executives, media representatives, mariners, fishermen, and shipping organizations, Patrick is advancing practical solutions to the most urgent threats against whales," says the International Fund for Animal Welfare. He has testified before the United States Congress and has advised companies on whale conservation efforts.

The FCCJ invites members and media representatives to come to the Club to hear a timely presentation from this experienced marine conservation campaigner.
