Faisal Abbas, Editor in Chief, Arab News

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.

"Saudi Arabia's relationship with Japan"

The next G20 Summit will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the recent G20 Summit in Osaka was attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also had a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. While the Kingdom remains an important ally of the West and Japan, it has been the subject of criticism in recent years due to the war in Yemen, the cutting of ties with Qatar and the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. But with Japan dependent on imported oil, ties to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries are a vital part of business and diplomacy.

Saudi Arabia's Arab News is the largest English newspaper in the Arab world and Editor-in-Chief Faisal Abbas, who was a member of the Saudi Arabian G20 delegation, will come to the Club to comment on matters relating to Saudi Arabia. Abbas is a renowned columnist on Arab-international affairs and has been the recipient of many media awards, including the Next Century Foundation's Cutting-Edge Award (2009) for efforts in bridging the communication gap between the West. He holds a master's degree from the University of Westminster and a BA degree from the Lebanese American University. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School. He is an associate fellow of the Cambridge Union Society and a member of the British Society of Authors. In 2017, he published his first Arabic book called Arabi/Englizi which describes London through Arab eyes.
