Jamie Joseph, Head Coach of the Japan National Rugby Team

(The speech and Q & A will be in English)

"Japan's Coach Looks Ahead to the Rugby World Cup"

The first Rugby World Cup in Asia is now less than a month away. While favorites such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, England, Ireland and Wales are likely to battle for the title in Japan over the next few months, what are the chances for the Japanese national team in a tournament that will be crucial to the legacy of the sport here?

Despite a "miracle" win against South Africa in the 2015 competition in England, the national team has never made it through to the knockout stages. Fresh from naming his squad for the tournament that kicks off on Sept. 20 in Tokyo, Japanese head coach Jamie Joseph will speak at the FCCJ about the Brave Blossoms' prospects.

As a player, Joseph played 20 times for the All Blacks and nine times for Japan, before starting his coaching career in 2003. He came through the ranks of provincial coaching at home before taking charge of Japan in 2016. He also coached the Sunwolves Super Rugby franchise from 2016 to 2018, before stepping down to focus on preparations for the World Cup.

Doors open for TV crew only at 13:15, all others at 13:30. Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive).
