Hashim Thaci, President of the Republic of Kosovo

Language: The speech will be in English and Q & A will be in Albanian with English interpretation.

"The Tenth Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Japan and Kosovo's Importance for Asia and the World"

Hashim Thachi, president of the Republic of Kosovo, will be coming to the Club to discuss problems in his Balkan nation and to highlight the importance of his country's relationship with Japan.

Thachi was elected president in February 2016. Before becoming president, he served as prime minister for two consecutive terms from 2007 to 2014, including the period in February 2008 when the nation's independence was declared. He was also the political head of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the civil war that continued for two years during 1997-1999. Kosovo is now recognized by more than one hundred countries, including Japan.

President Thachi is in Japan on an official visit that the Kosovo side hopes will strengthen ties between two countries and pave the way for greater Japanese involvement. Currently, Japan does not have any major investments in Kosovo.

Come to the Club and hear more directly from the nation's leader.
