"Carlos Ghosn Confidant to Provide Details of Their November and December Meetings"

Nobuo Gohara, Lawyer, Former Prosecutor

(The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation)

A prominent Japanese attorney and former prosecutor, spent more than 10 hours secretly interviewing Carlos Ghosn as part of a book project over a six-week period until just before Ghosn's late-December escape. Gohara had intended to tell the story of the events surrounding the former auto industry executive's November 2018 arrest and its aftermath in a book that was planned for publication in Apil 2020 when Ghosn's trial was expected to begin.

Their last meeting was on Dec. 27, two days before Ghosn left his Tokyo residence and headed for Kansai International Airport, where he allegedly departed from Japan in an audio equipment box loaded onto a private jet. Ghosn never confided with Gohara about his escape plans, and Gohara says he was genuinely shocked and surprised by the news that Ghosn was no longer in Japan. But looking back to their last meeting at the residence of a mutual friend in Tokyo, he now recalls that Ghosn sounded somewhat different.

Until then, he said Ghosn was eager to get the book published and therefore had been very forthcoming.
In total, Gohara met Ghosn five times from mid-November. He told Gohara many things that have not yet been made public. Gohara did not want to disclose details of their conversations unless he first received permission from Ghosn. Ghosn gave him permission on a video-conference call on Jan. 13.

Gohara will share with us what Ghosn revealed, especially his account of what was happening behind the scenes inside Nissan at the time of his arrest in regards to the automaker's alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi. He will also share Ghosn's views on the charges against him as well as the friction between two corporate cultures Ghosn witnessed firsthand as CEO of the main alliance partners, Nissan and Renault.
