"Lawmakers in Opposition to Secrecy Bill"
Mizuho Fukushima, Social Democratic Party
Ryo Shuhama, People's Life Party
Sohei Nihi, Japanese Communist Party
Taro Yamamoto, Independent
Language: The speech and Q &A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.
The Abe administration's pursuit of a harsh new government secrecy law has alarmed not only civil liberties and media organizations, but even a wide spectrum of politicians from conservative, centrist, and liberal political parties.
While the issue remains hotly debated in the National Diet, a delegation of lawmakers and other representatives from a variety of political parties have asked to come to our Club and to brief us on the dangers of the Designated Secrets Bill as they understand them. Since intrepid journalists too may face prison time under the current version of the bill, it is an issue we cannot overlook.
Scheduled to come to our Club are the following four speakers: Mizuho Fukushima (SDP), Sohei Nihi (JCP) Ryo Shuhama (People's Life Party), and Taro Yamamoto (Independent).
We suggest that you hear what they have to say: Your future freedom may depend on it!
