The Ambassador of Palestine Speaks Out on the Gaza Conflict
Fierce fighting has again flared up in the seemingly interminable Arab-Israeli conflict. Hamas, the Islamist political party that represents the Gaza Strip, has been firing rockets into Israel; Israeli forces have been bombing Gaza with lethal effect. It is an unequal contest in which the vast majority of those being killed are Palestinians, and most of these victims have been civilians - including many children.
In the midst of this ongoing tragedy, long-serving Ambassador of Palestine to Japan Waleed Siam is coming to the Club to brief members on the latest developments in his homeland. Even through Japan is on the opposite side of the Asian continent, it has been deeply involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict for many decades, as a business partner, a major aid donor and as a would-be peace negotiator.
Find out what Ambassador Siam has to say now and what role he believes Japan should be playing.
