"Election Result Analysis"

"Election Result Analysis"

With Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling coalition looking like maintaining its two-thirds majority in the lower house election on Sunday, what would a possible further four years in office enable him to achieve?

Will Abe be emboldened by securing another landslide win and push through with economic reforms and unpopular policies such as nuclear restarts and constitutional change? Or will a projected lowturnout, potentially the lowest since the war, undermine any fresh mandate for the prime minister?

Columbia University's Gerald Curtis will dissect the results and discuss the potential outcomes. Curtis is active as a columnist, writer and speaker on Japanese politics, something he has been studying for more than four decades.
