"Discrimination against women in entrance examination for medical school"

A group representing female medical school applicants denied entrance to Tokyo Medical University after the school admittedly manipulated exam scores to lower female enrollment will come to the FCCJ to discuss the lawsuit they are filing against the university.

University officials said they changed test scores to avoid a doctor shortage, because female doctors are believed to resign or take long leave after marriage and childbirth.

Speakers will explain why they are filing a lawsuit and legal consultation work already done since the university admitted changing test scores. The suit seeks damages including reimbursement of entrance exam fees and compensation for emotional distress.
