"Asian Economic Update"

Yasuyuki Sawada, Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English with simultaneous interpretation.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will release an update to its flagship annual economic report, Asian Development Outlook 2019, on September 25.

On this occasion, its Chief Economist Yasuyuki Sawada will come to the Club to discuss the publication, which carries new insights on macroeconomic trends in Asia and provides growth forecasts by country and region for 2019 and 2020. The report also analyzes the risks that have arisen due to trade conflict, rising debt and a growth slowdown in major world economies. It also examines the opportunities and challenges faced by fast-urbanizing cities in developing Asia today – from mobility to housing and city planning.

Dr Sawada has been ADB chief economist since 2017, and heads its Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department, which conducts policy research on development challenges facing the Asia Pacific. He also teaches economics at the University of Tokyo, and has a wealth of experience including previous stints working at the ADB Institute in Tokyo and consulting for various projects with the World Bank Group.

The ADB, based in Manila, has a mission to reduce poverty in the Asia Pacific by promoting inclusive, environmentally-sustainable growth and regional integration.
