"Tokyo 2020 and beyond:Initiatives for a Safe and Secure Tokyo"

Koike Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo

The speech will be in English and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

With the novel coronavirus resurging across Europe and reaching record daily totals in the United States, the fate of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics – postponed to the summer of 2021 due to the global pandemic – appears uncertain.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is expected to visit Tokyo in mid-November for talks with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Koike and others.

Governor Koike, a frequent FCCJ guest speaker, was re-elected by a landslide to a second term in July. "As we are makingefforts to overcome the coronavirus pandemic, it will be necessary to present a new model for the Olympics and Paralympics," she told the media last month. What will that model be?

She will come and talk about how the Tokyo government is dealing with the coronavirus and Tokyo2020. She will also discuss "Global Financial City", an initiative that focuses on strengthening Japan's asset management and fintech. Come join FCCJ as she talks about Tokyo's preparations and the results of Bach's visit.
