Message of condolence

With deep regret I would like to inform you about the tragic death of one of our colleagues and a friend of many FCCJ members, Hiroyuki Muramoto. Known to his friends and acquaintances simply as Hiro, he was a cameraman working for Reuters and among those who covered FCCJ events quite frequently. He was fatally shot in the chest on Saturday while covering the clashes in Bangkok between the government troops and opposition supporters. It's still unclear from which side the shot came.

I myself and all members of the Board are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of a fellow journalist, and on behalf of the FCCJ we would like to make a formal request to the Thai authorities to carry out an independent investigation to identify the origin of the bullet that had taken this precious life. Hiro's tragic death comes as a reminder of how dangerous the profession of journalism in times might turn out to be, and also tells us the heroism of our colleagues who fear nothing in the pursuit of getting the news known to all without any delay.
