Description:"The Role Of Entrepreneurs And Entrepreneurship In U.S.-Japan Relations"
What does the economic downturn mean for entrepreneurship in Asia and the U.S.? What are the conditions that foster entrepreneurship and what role can entrepreneurs play in U.S.-Japan relations?
Asia is the engine of the global economy, sitting at the crossroads of the global supply chain and boasting a new, young middle class who are early adopters of innovative technologies. Yet where America has led the world in entrepreneurship, and China, India and other Asian economies are making strides, Japan struggles. The difficulties in starting a business, for example, is far above that of America or the OECD average.
However, Japan is undergoing significant changes. The labor market is more flexible, M&A is booming, corporate and political sentiment is appreciating entrepreneurship, and a new stock exchange for high growth companies, Tokyo AIM, is underway.
Together, these issues raise pertinent questions about how the role of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in US-Japan relations will evolve.
Join us for a talk by Dr. Richard B. Dasher, the Director of the U.S.-Asia Technology Management Center at Stanford University and an expert on Japan and entrepreneurship. Dasher has been at Stanford since 1993, where he also holds consulting faculty appointments in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Asian Languages.
