As its 45th anniversary program, the Tokyo Ballet presents "La Bayadere", an ancient Indian love story of la bayadere (a temple dancer) named Nikiya, and a young warrior named Solor.
The ballet was first presented at the Maryinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg in 1877 with choreography by Marius Petipa. Natalia Makarova, the director and producer of Tokyo stage, was the principal dancer of the Maryinsky who self-exiled from Russia to the West in 1970.
She recreated the spectacle, exotic scenes of "Kingdom of the Shades."
A pair of S tickets usually cost 20,000 yen but FCCJ tickets cost only 21,000 yen per pair with a fabulous buffet lunch and a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink.
Call the front desk (3211-3161) or reserve on line as soon as possible as your SPC was able to book only 15 pairs of seats. Strictly first come first served. Reservations cancelled after 6 p.m. August 28 will be charged in full.
