The Lawmaker Responsible For The DPJ's Election Manifesto

Tetsuro Fukuyama, a two-term DPJ House of Councillors lawmaker, was responsible for coordinating the party's election campaign manifesto.

As deputy chairman of the party's Policy Research Committee and the next vice Cabinet secretary, Fukuyama is well positioned to explain the DPJ's strategy for the closely watched Aug. 30 general election.

He will be at the FCCJ to talk about the manifesto and answer questions on the campaign platform, whose wording concerning a free trade agreement with the United States has been revised due to a backlash from farmers. The revised version also features a growth strategy centering on domestic demand.

A former Daiwa Securities man, Fukuyama also serves as a member of the budget committee, the environment committee and the research committee on international affairs and global warming issues.
