In 1955, in the seventh year of their marriage, Frank (DiCaprio) hates his Manhattan office job while his wife, April (Winslet), at home in Connecticut with their two children, has abandoned her hopes of becoming an actress. Longing to be happy again, April suggests that they move to Paris and start over. Frank initially agrees. But when he’s offered a promotion and decides to stay, the marriage crumbles further, and matters soon take an unforeseen path. Director Sam Mendes is a master at dissecting suburban desperation; Kate and Leo, reunited for the first time since TITANIC, are masters at portraying it.
