Actresses, Musical "Grey Gardens"

Description:
Shinobu Otake and Mitsuko Kusabue, two of Japan's top actresses, are set to appear in the musical "Grey Gardens," which will premiere in November at the Theatre Crea in Tokyo.

Otake has appeared in various movies and TV dramas since her sensational debut in "Seishun no Mon" in 1975, while Kusabue, a onetime member of the Shochiku Kageki Dan all-women theater play troupe, is a pioneer in the Japanese musical world and a fixture on Japanese films and TV dramas.

The upcoming musical is a Japanese adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical based on the documentary of the same title. The production is about the lives of Edith "Big Edie" Ewing Bouvier Beale (played by Kusabue) and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale (played by Otake), who were the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. It is directed by Amon Miyamoto, the first Asian ever to direct a Broadway musical, "Pacific Overtures" (2004), which received four Tony award nominations. Miyamoto also won the National Arts Festival Prize in 2006 for Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte."

Otake and Kusabue will come to the club to talk about the high-profile musical and Japan's theatrical and movie scenes.
