"Burma VJ"
Jan Krogsgaard, Assistant Director, Originator & Script Writer
The documentary is in Burmese and English with English and Japanese subtitles, the speech and Q & A will be in English.
Description:Armed with small handycams, risking torture and life in jail, Burma's underground video journalists maintain a flow of news and images the military regime and its enforcers don't want the world to see. Anders Ostergaard's and Jan Krogsgaard's award-winning "Burma VJ -- reporting from a closed country" (85 minutes) focuses on 27-year-old VJ "Joshua" and the events of September 2007 when Buddhist monks inspired a huge popular uprising and vicious retaliations, including the murder of Japanese journalist Kenji Nagai.
The documentary, which was in development before the December events and was completed in Rangoon in April 2008, follows and reconstructs the efforts of Joshua and his reporters to record and get out of Burma the facts, and the vision, of the uprising, all the while hunted by the regime's agents.
The documentary showing will be followed by a question and answer session with Jan Krogsgaard, the initiator of the Burma VJ film project.
