Jonathan Katz and Rie Akagi
Contemporary Piano and Flute Jazz

Pianist Jonathan Katz and flutist Rie Akagi have individually attracted their own followings with their work in jazz and Latin music. Put these two together and it's sure to be a dynamite show. Both write originals and arrange standards and both have performed with some of the leading musicians on the worldwide scene: Katz, with Ray Brown, Lew Tabackin and Joe Lee Wilson; Akagi, with Tito Puente and Poncho Sanchez Group. Between them, the two artists have a total of 17 CDs out. Akagi's latest, "Caribbean Flutes," has the backing of the major label Victor. Jazz Improv Magazine called Katz's “Continuance” CD, "fresh, inventive and swinging jazz." Check out their web pages at http://www.jkatz.net and http://www.rieflute.com.
