Description:

Mizuho Fukushima, leader of the coalition-member SDP, has a lot to say about the relocation of Futemma base and other divisive issues ahead of President Barack Obama's visit to Japan.

A lawyer by training, Fukushima is also responsible for crucial issues facing Japan such as consumer affairs, declining birthrate, food safety and gender equality.

A member of the House of Councilors since 1998, she became SDP secretary general in 2001 and party leader in 2003.

Fukushima comes to the club convinced that the ruling coalition will seek a review of the shape of the U.S. forces in Japan to ease the burden of the people in Okinawa Prefecture.
