Rie Furuse, Jazz Vocalist

Rie Furuse returns to the FCCJ with pianist Hiroshi Tanaka at what is sure to be another Saturday Night Live to remember. The duo's repertoire spans jazz, fusion, pops and Latin numbers, too, with Rie singing in English, French and Japanese. Rie has trained with a number of internationally noted vocal instructors and has developed a distinctive style. She has performed at every jazz club you can name in Tokyo as well as throughout Asia and at venues in the States and France. She moved to Paris last year and is getting established on the world stage. It will be a rare treat to bring her back to the FCCJ.

Tokyo-based Hiroshi Tanaka has been on a life-long quest of musical discovery. He started with classical piano lessons at age 4 and discovered jazz in his teens. He made his pro debut at 19 and his repertoire expanded after studying in New York and Spain while he was in his 20s. He now plays flamenco and world music. It's a duo not to miss at this week's Saturday Night Live.
