The Kevin McHugh Quartet features some of the best players and freshest songs in Tokyo. Playing both original compositions and under-appreciated jazz standards, the group seeks to pleasantly blow your mind with its borderless music. Pianist Kevin McHugh brings a heavy history of exploration and improvisation to the group, having played in grimy Brazilian choro cafes, Egyptian belly dance clubs, sleek Shanghai jazz dens and the Tokyo underground noise scene--all in the name of improv. He's joined by one of the most exciting young musicians in Tokyo, saxophonist Simon Cosgrove, an equally fascinating improviser and composer. It just gets better with veteran Tokyo cool bassist Ichi Takata and groove master Loui Kazui on drums. This new group will surprise you and challenge any notions you have about the current Tokyo jazz scene.
