Description:
"What changed in Japan's foreign policy under DPJ government and what did not"

Nearly a year has passed since the Democratic Party of Japan won control of the government. The historic change from LDP rule had the world wondering what it might expect from Japanese foreign policy?

Already one prime minister later, Japan has been mostly quiet on the foreign policy front since Naoto Kan came to office. Where is the country heading on the foreign policy front?

Katsuya Okada has been Japan's foreign minister since last September. He was deeply involved in the negotiations with the Obama administration over the Okinawa base relocation issue and led the foreign ministry's effort to investigate and disclose 40-year old documents related to secret pacts with the U.S. involving the introduction of nuclear weapons into Japan.

At the FCCJ on August 25, Okada will speak on Japan's foreign policy objectives and what he believes has changed since the DPJ came to power.

Okada, who is seen as one by many as a future candidate for prime minister, has kept quiet about his ambition for the higher office. While planning to support Kan in September's DPJ presidential election, the event will also be a chance to quiz him on his future plans within the DPJ.
