Junko Mihara, LDP Member of the House of Councillors
& Former Actress and Singer

Description:
Junko Mihara is a survivor in many respects as an entertainer, woman and now as a politician.

A native of Tokyo, Mihara was one of a few celebrities who were victorious in the July 11 House of Councillors election, along with her nemesis, two-time Olympic judo champion Ryoko Tani, who ran on the ruling Democratic Party of Japan ticket.

For many Japanese, Mihara is widely known as the actress who played the role of a delinquent teenager in the popular TV drama that ran from 1979, "3-nen B-gumi Kimpachi Sensei."

Mihara also made a successful singing debut in 1980 and her debut song ''Sexy Night'' was a big hit. In 1982 she was the lead-off female singer in "Kohaku Uta Gassen," Japan's annual New Year's Eve TV music show, armed with another hit song, "Honki-de Love Me Good!!"

Mihara was active as a racing car driver in 1987-1999 and suffered injuries, including bone fractures, on various occasions. She has also survived cancer and been active in the campaign to urge women to take precautionary measures.

"I feel there is a sign the LDP has changed. I'll work to be a new whirlwind blowing in the LDP," Mihara said after winning the upper house seat.

Mihara, 45, will come to the club to elaborate on her goals in Japanese politics.
