No. 1 Shimbun was founded in tabloid newspaper format in 1968 when the late Henry Hartzenbusch of AP was president of the FCCJ. The late John Roderick, also of AP, was the paper’s first editor, and I, then with UPI, was its first columnist.

In those days, No. 1 Shimbun reported at length on Club members and Club activities. It was solely a newsletter for and about the FCCJ. Today, however, most of its pages are devoted to articles about Japan and elsewhere. I miss reading about the Club I joined in 1952 and its members, past and present.
