2009-2010 FCCJ Student Membership
2009-2010 FCCJ Student Membership
The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan grants a limited number of student memberships with the aim of encouraging undergraduate and graduate-level students to enter the profession. Student membership entitles holders to take advantage of events and FCCJ facilities that do not require a financial obligation.
Specifically, student members may:
1) Attend FCCJ press conferences
2) Use the FCCJ library for research.
3) Attend press luncheons if they pay in advance at the front desk.
4) Inquire, through the Scholarship and Young Professionals Committee, about opportunities to interact professionally with FCCJ journalist members.
Student membership does not include privileges for the restaurant, the main bar, or the sushi bar unless invited by a member (student members may not be served alcohol without proper ID proving they are 20 years of age).
Membership is open to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited university program in Japan or overseas through at least March 2010 who has demonstrated a serious interest in a journalism career.
Students may apply for membership by submitting an application form, a resume, a copy of a valid student identification card, a passport size photo and a short cover letter. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Students who already have membership may renew it by submitting a copy of their student ID card or a document showing their expected graduation date and a recent photo.
Note: Student membership is treated as an FCCJ honorary membership and subject to FCCJ policies. Memberships are granted on a yearly basis and expire on June 30, 2010. Membership will start on July 1, 2009. All applications received prior to that day may not be processed until that time. Processing may take three-to four weeks.

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan is a shadan hojin non-profit organization, established in November 1945, to promote friendship, harmony and mutual welfare among its members, to defend the freedom of the press, and to increase friendly relations between Japan and other countries. The first members were a group of journalists accredited to General Douglas MacArthur’s headquarters. The club has since grown to more than 300 working journalists, representing news organizations from around the world. FCCJ is run by an elected board of directors and appointed committees.
