The speech and Q & A will be in English.
Description:*Initial reservations are limited to one ticket and may be subject to further change.
On the eve of the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, we hear from Nissan-Renault chief executive and president Carlos Ghosn, one of only three foreigners running a big Japanese company and, since his rescue and turnaround of Nissan in the early 2000s, one of the most admired industrialists anywhere.
The past three years have been tough on Nissan and Ghosn, as they have been on the whole industry. But he's once again the centre of attention and once again by setting highly ambitious targets. Ghosn has committed the alliance to a Euros 4 billion (530 billion yen) investment in electric vehicles development, on the proposition that EVs will constitute at least 6 percent of the global vehicle market in 2020. It's a huge bet by a man who, last time he spoke to the club four years ago, was reluctant to commit to any alternative vehicle technology -- though even then he was leaning towards electric.

Description:Shinobu Otake and Mitsuko Kusabue, two of Japan's top actresses, are set to appear in the musical "Grey Gardens," which will premiere in November at the Theatre Crea in Tokyo.
Otake has appeared in various movies and TV dramas since her sensational debut in "Seishun no Mon" in 1975, while Kusabue, a onetime member of the Shochiku Kageki Dan all-women theater play troupe, is a pioneer in the Japanese musical world and a fixture on Japanese films and TV dramas.
The upcoming musical is a Japanese adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical based on the documentary of the same title. The production is about the lives of Edith "Big Edie" Ewing Bouvier Beale (played by Kusabue) and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale (played by Otake), who were the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. It is directed by Amon Miyamoto, the first Asian ever to direct a Broadway musical, "Pacific Overtures" (2004), which received four Tony award nominations. Miyamoto also won the National Arts Festival Prize in 2006 for Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte."
Otake and Kusabue will come to the club to talk about the high-profile musical and Japan's theatrical and movie scenes.

The documentary, speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English subtitles & interpretation.
Description:In October 1945, two months after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, a film crew entered the city to document victims of the attack and what remained of the city. The film was sent to America and released in 1946 as "The effect of Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki."
In 1995 Hiroshima's RCC-TV, working with Nihon Eiga Sha and the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, revised the unedited version of the film, cataloging the locations and those featured in it, while also converting it to high-definition.
The resulting film, "The A-bomb, What happened to Hiroshima?," was released in 2006 in Japanese and has now had English subtitles added.
On Aug. 4 the documentary will be shown at the FCCJ prior to a discussion on the movie led by Chie Matsuoka of RCC Broadcasting, who coordinated the project to remake the film, and Motoshi Kato, president of rights-holder Nichiei Eizo.
As the anniversary of the atomic bombing approaches, join us to see this extraordinary work and get a reminder of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons.
