15:00-16:00 Friday, April 5, 2024
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

New Hope for Abductee Recovery?

Takuya Yokota will speak about political, diplomatic and public efforts to bring back Japanese abducted by North Korean agents. His sister, Megumi Yokota, is among those taken in 1977 and kept for decades in the sealed-off country.
Yokota has told Japanese media recently that North Korea has been sending signals suggesting a new opening for possible resolution. He has called for face-to-face meetings between Japanese officials and North Koreans without making any concessions.
Yokota has also been emphasizing the need for urgency, as parents of abductees are getting old.
